Bio
I graduated from the University of Washington in the summer of 1996 with a degree in Civil Engineering. After taking the summer off, I accepted a position as a project engineer at the Boeing Aerospace Company. In less than a year, at the age of 24, I was promoted to Senior Engineer. This was around the time that the internet was really taking off and I quickly found myself drawn to the exciting world of web development and real-time data access. I was also impressed with the power and practicality of databases and single-source data warehousing. At that time, much of Boeing's infrastructure was behind the times and, due to the large size of the company, change was slow. Seeing the need for a paradigm shift, I became an evangelist and began fighting the good fight with a number of other like-minded engineers. Over the next few years I built several web sites and databases for my payloads group at Boeing. The company and my managers were very supportive of my continued education. Not only did they give me the needed time off and full financial support for the plethora of web design and database development classes that I took, but they even paid me for the hours I spent attending those classes. I find this worth mentioning because I have never heard of, or encountered, any other company with this degree of support for employee education.

I guess you could say their support eventually backfired. In January of 2001 I struck out on my own, determined to make web development and database design my full-time occupation as a consultant. I didn't like the idea of leaving Boeings security and great benefits. It was a difficult choice but I now know that it was the right thing to do. Since then I have worked with numerous clients including Comcast, Cingular Wireless, Drugstore.com, and Transact Communications.
